The Great North Swim

The Great North Swim was a big success and spectators got treated with an ultra tight battle for the titles. Olympic open water swimmers David Davies, Maarten van der Weijden, Thomas Lurz, Cassandra Patton, Keri-Anne Payne and Sandra Biller were competing directly with ITU triathletes Alastair Brownlee, Jodie Swallow and Marie Rabie and a couple thousand other folks. In the end the Open water swim specialists ruled, but with all the blueseventy wetsuits present, we should maybe say, blueseventy ruled. :-)

Lined up and ready to go

Olympic rematch to be held this weekend in UK...

This coming Saturday (13th of September) sees a re-match of the inaugural Olympic 10km Open Water swim event. David Davies, Thomas Lurz and Olympic champion Maarten van der Weijden will be battling for glory in the first "Great North Swim" (www.greatswim.org), located in the famous Windermere Lake, England's largest lake.
Joining them will be a host of Olympic stars and over 2000 members of the public taking part in a one mile challenge in 14 degree waters. Upon questioning about the upcoming race, van der Weijden seemed very relaxed and was looking forward to the swim in his new blueseventy Helix wetsuit. Our man on the ground, Dean Jackson, will be there taking pictures and giving us a report from the scene.
Will Maarten again reign supreme, will David Davies choose a better swimming line? Will the newly crowned European Champion Lutz execute revenge?
Yes, it's all happening in the north of England...

An incredible end to the swimming events in Beijing

We had lots of athletes swimming in blueseventy swim skins in the Olympic Water Cube pool and also in the open water. But the Olympic gold medal of Maarten van der Weijden in the 10k open water swim was certainly the icing on the cake.

Gold in Beijing -WOW

Maarten van der Weijden (NED) just won the gold medal in his Dutch themed blueseventy nero swim skin. Incredible.

Martin we are so proud of you and what an amazing story you have. After you were diagnosed with leukemia you had a stem cell transplant and luckily recovered. You then went on to win the 25k open water World Championships earlier this year and now you are the open water 10k Olympic Champion.
