blueseventy’s CEO Steve Nicholls is confident that blueseventy will be able to adapt to any rulings that have come from the FINA Dubai charter.
“We’ve been involved, along with FINA and the other major manufacturers for the last few months in making sure that our products are meeting any restrictions, both in the immediate and long term future” said Nicholls.
Fina’s rules, issued in a two-stage process, will limit suits on thickness, buoyancy and other areas as of March 31st this year. This will be the standard until Jan 1st 2010, when the restrictions of phase two will come into effect.
“Phase one should not affect the legality of our current suits at all. All our in-house testing has shown that our current suits meet all of the phase one restrictions, including those relating to buoyancy. There has been a lot of incorrect information, and personal viewpoints ushered into the public arena, and we feel that some of these tests will help reduce the confusion that seems to be out there.”
“Phase two, will limit suits based on permeability, and dependant upon what that permeability ruling is, theoretically we may need to adjust our designs to make sure we retain a viable swimskin product beyond 2010. Since the FINA think tank in February, we’ve changed our design focus around those possible rulings and have some exciting concepts already in the pipeline.”
That’s for the future. For now blueseventy suits are fast becoming the suit of choice for swimmers globally, none more so than in the US college season, where blueseventy Nero suits took more State championships than any other brand. The current suits should remain in circulation until Jan 1st 2010 when, pending the new permeability rulings they may be phased out.
Commenting on the rulings, Global sales and marketing manager Dean Jackson said “We’re committed to being a long term partner of FINA, and swimming, that’s why we’ve invested back into the sport already, with sponsorship of US masters, and the FINA open water 10km Marathon series. This means that we are listening to coaches, athletes and others in order to ensure we are designing products that meet with the direction of the sport that FINA is charged with protecting. “

the blueseventy dressing room
So the American boys had a bit of fun at the USA Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha last week. Here, our swimming ambassador Roque shows us how quickly a nero swimskin can be put on - even in a lift!
German Masters Swim Nationals

Monika Zilliken had this to say about her nero....
"The nero has not only landed ... he is more than quick on his way and more than quick "with" me on the way ;-))
During our nationals I was able to amend my current swim times:
50 m free for 1,5 seconds (meant place 9) ,
50 m breast for 2,1 seconds (place 3)
100 m breast for 6 (!!!) seconds (place 6)
A lot of reasons to be happy!
More than one swimmer had been curious about my black suit. Eyes followed me ... and some interesting contacts occured. I'm curious about it!
All the best,
Monika"
Thank you for your comments and congratulations Monika!

blueseventy's first pool record!
On Saturday Lara Jackson set the American record in the women's 50-meter freestyle by finishing her preliminary heat in 24.50 seconds at the U.S. Olympic Swimming trials, whilst wearing a blueseventy nero comp! Jackson's time eclipsed the previous American mark of 24.53 seconds held by Dara Torres, who ironically was racing in the lane next to the 2008 NCAA champion from the University of Arizona. Congratulations Lara!
Rumour has it another record was just broken in a nero...we'll keep you posted!

Stovall puts nero in spotlight in US Olympic swim trials

All members of the blueseventy team globally are ecstatic at the news of the 200m fly swimmer Gil Stovall after he finished in second place behind the great Michael Phelps at the USA trials in Omaha, becoming the second fastest man in history finishing in the event. Reducing his best time by nearly three seconds in his blueseventy nero swimskin, Stovall launched himself into 'legendary' status. All of the blueseventy team want to wish him well for future events in the trials and the 2008 Olympics. Gil is not the only athlete wearing the blueseventy nero, but is certainly the highest profile to date.

Nice Nero review on GoSwim
The blueseventy nero was recently reviewed on goswim.tv and the tester Glenn Mills seemed to be quite smitten with the suit.
We especially liked the closing paragraph:
"Even the Blueseventy won't swim for me. However, the 5 times I've used it in a race have been far more successful than I ever would have imagined going into the meet. There's a new world of swimming rising. We'll all witness it this summer in China, only this time, we ALL have the opportunity to take part. We can all swim a little faster than we thought we should, and it's a lot of fun. Of course, the more we use them, the more training we'll have to do to go faster. Ultimately, this cycle will level out, and we'll be back to the usual grind of learning and training for improvement. Until then... you can pry my BLUESEVENTY from my cold, shriveled, pruned fingers... of course, if you can get to the zipper. Lil' help, please?"

Pieter Van Den Hoogenband test
Our blueseventy pointzero & nero swim skins have seen quite a bit of open water time and have really proven themselves over and over so far. Many though wondered how well these super fast swim skins would do in the pool and chlorine. To answer this question we recently got a few decently well known swimmers like Pieter Van Den Hoogenband to test them out and wow what a success it was.
Peter Van Hoogenband in the new blueseventy nero comp at the Dutch National Championships.

Oh, for the record he swam 1.45.9 for 200m, his fastest time in six years. :-)

Australian qualifies for Olympics wearing a blueseventy nero
At the 2008 Open Water Swimming World Championships in Seville, Spain an emotional Ky Hurst has qualified to represent Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, wearing the high tech blueseventy nero 10km open water swim skin in the 10km Open Water event.
Amid all the hype around his higher profile team mate Grant Hackett, who finished in 15th position and was subsequently disqualified, Hurst was visibly overwhelmed when he secured his ticket to Beijing on the Australian open water swimming team.
The blueseventy nero 10km suit has been the preferred choice amongst open water swimmers at this years 10km event at the World Championships, with a third of all competitors on the start line wearing the blueseventy suit. The blueseventy nero 10km suit is the only specifically designed open water suit on the market. Hurst was one of many athletes in the field who chose to wear a blueseventy nero 10km suit, having to petition his national federation to be allowed to wear his preferred blueseventy swim skin as it conflicted with the teams existing sponsor. Holland's, Maarten Van Der Weijden in 4th place and Italian Cleri in 6th also wore the blueseventy nero 10km swim skin.
The 2008 Open Water Swimming World Championships continues this week with the menʼs and women's 5km and 25km events taking place on Tuesday and Thursday.
